WordCamp Portland, Maine 2017 is back and better than ever. We hope you’ll join us!
What is a WordCamp?
According to WordCamp Central:
WordCamps are casual, locally-organized conferences covering everything related to WordPress, the free and open source personal publishing software that powers over 100 million sites on the web.
There have been over 340 WordCamps in 48 countries around the world, each unique to the city or region that organizes them. Learn more about WordCamps over at WordCamp Central.
WordCamp is WordPress
WordCamps are for people that love to use, build, work, write, and create with WordPress! They are for people of all skill levels, from those just starting out to those that contribute code to core. WordCamps (and their personnel) represent the WordPress open source project and the community, and all WordCamps have to agree to adhere to some basic guidelines in order to use the WordCamp name.
WordCamp is Local
Although WordCamps are sanctioned by the WordPress Foundation, all WordCamps are independently organized by the local WordPress community in order to provide content, speakers, classes, programming, and activities specifically for them, as well as showcase local talent.
WordCamp is Affordable
WordCamps are meant, like WordPress itself, to be accessible to as many people as possible. Our ticket costs are kept down through donations and the generosity of our sponsors, and surplus money is put back into the community through funding meetups, contributions to WordPress, or to help fund other WordCamps.
WordCamp is Volunteers
WordCamps are 100% volunteer run, whether that’s the organizing team who spent countless hours putting the event together, or the on-site volunteers that keep the event running smoothly, or the speakers donating their time to teach you.
WordCamp is Fun
WordCamps are a great chance for new and old friends to come together and enjoy the camaraderie of the community. In addition to educational opportunities, WordCamps provide ample social and networking opportunities for our speakers, sponsors, organizers, and attendees to connect.
